Harper Changes Twitter Handle to “Steve Harper” to Attract Hip Young Voters
OTTAWA — In what his office is calling a “cool dude” move to appeal to a younger crowd, it was announced today that the Prime Minister has changed his Twitter handle from “Stephen Harper” to “Steve Harper”.
“I’m just Steve,” Harper (54) is quoted in today’s media release announcing the Twitter change.
“And, as Steve, I’m not afraid to metaphorically let my hair down…I say metaphorically because I don’t actually touch my hair from the moment I put it on in the morning until I go to bed at night.”
The announcement comes on the heels of leaks outlining the Conservative Party’s communications plan leading up to the 2015 federal election. That four-pronged strategy is to:
“(1) Expose Justin Trudeau as the bisexual sleaze punk that he is;
(2)Showcase Harper’s wife Laureen as a modern, intelligent sexy broad;
(3)Let Steve get his freak on a bit; and
(4)Expose Justin Trudeau as the brainless, hair-gelled, commie druggie that he is.”
The actual impact of the name change cannot be assessed at this point but @xboxdude69 tweeted “@steveharper” asking “Who r u? U look like a pork dork.”
Despite this initial negative feedback, Harper believes that the big change from Stephen to Steve will help his public image amongst Canada’s “with-it” youth.
The Prime Minister also stated that he will start “twerking” more about current events and will try to engage the celebrities that young people admire. His office today also released a “Steve Harper” tweet to Canadian hip-hop artist Drake.
“Hi Drake. I enjoy your rhythmic limericks. Do you have a last name?”
