Harper’s Suit of Shining Armour Held Up at Canada Customs
OTTAWA — The Toronto Star is reporting that Prime Minister Stephen Harper has ordered a $1,300 (U.S.) suit of armour complete with an extra large helmet.
But the Star says the FedEx package was addressed to “Mr. Knight in Shining Armour, 24 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1M 1M4” and this raised enough suspicions to bring in the RCMP and to refuse Customs clearance.
“Canada currently has no knights in shining armour as far as we know,” Canada Border Services Manager Dwayne McBride told the Star.
“But the Prime Minister’s Office has confirmed Mr. Harper ordered the suit for himself and it should clear Customs later today.”
The hand-pounded iron suit is being held at Ottawa’s Macdonald–Cartier International Airport but Harper’s Chief Spokesman Jason MacDonald said one of the PM’s limos would pick up the package as soon as it is released.
“This is a personal expense paid for by the Prime Minister and, frankly, is not a media issue,” MacDonald snapped at a CBC reporter.
“What the Prime Minister wears on his own time is his own business.”
