Mitch McConnell Says He “Tweeters” Often
WASHINGTON — In a move seemingly designed to reach out to young Americans, soon-to-be Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was spotted today at a Starbucks wearing a Beyonce t-shirt and sporting ear buds as he finger-tapped away on an iPhone 6.
“OMG. LMAO,” McConnell could be heard saying loudly several times before being approached by a Washington Post reporter.
“LOL,” McConnell replied when the reporter pointed out that he had the iPhone upside down.
With the tables around him filled with clean-cut youth wearing “Coal is America’s BFF” buttons, McConnell said he “probs” goes to Starbucks once a week because he “totes loves lattes”.
“I tweeter with young Americans every day,” McConnell (72) grinned as he gestured towards his beaming young supporters.
“I just posted a selfie on Instantgram this morning.”
“Today’s youth dig what they see in the GOP.”
The move to grow the Republican base of largely aging, white males comes after the release of national polls showing the Grand Old Party has less than 8% support among 16-year-old Americans who will be eligible to vote for the first time in the 2016 federal election.
First elected as a Senator in 1984, McConnell says he’s not bothered that he’s older than the average 16-year-old’s grandparents.
“NBD,” McConnell told reporter Mike Scott as he finished his Eggnog Latte and stood up to leave the crowded Starbucks
